Cellwatch takes daily ohmic value measurements to provide more accurate and reliable data about the health of your batteries. Cellwatch is designed to test per the IEEE standard 1491 which defines the parameters for ohmic measurement of batteries. IEEE further clarifies how the measurement technique Cellwatch implemented is a good indication of the health of the battery. Cellwatch provides early indication of potential failures, so you can prevent downtime and truly manage your battery assets while ensuring your UPS power source is ready when needed.
Do we still need to schedule PM visits if we install a Battery Monitoring System?
Since Cellwatch monitors your batteries daily, there is no need for monthly or quarterly preventive maintenance. Cellwatch is a highly accurate measurement device which is just as accurate as the hand held devices used in the manual PM process. With Cellwatch, you’re protected 365 days a year. We do recommend that all Cellwatch users comply with IEEE recommendations and perform a visual battery inspection (and load test if needed) once per year.

How safe is Cellwatch?
Cellwatch is fiber optic based for inherent safety. With fiber optic interconnects there are no long, dangerous wiring harness and the possibility of monitor-involved battery ground faults is eliminated. And because Cellwatch is monitoring your batteries electronically, human contact with your battery plant is minimized.
How easy is it to install and to use?
Consisting of three primary components: the Intelligent Battery Monitoring System (iBMU), the Control Unit (CU) and the Data Collection Module (DCM), Cellwatch is the easiest system to install, maintain and expand. There are no long electrically conductive wiring harnesses to contend with, and each DCM is self-addressing and automatically calibrates.

What is Thermal Runaway?
Thermal runaway is caused by the heat generated in VRLA cells exceeding their ability to dissipate that heat and can result in complete destruction of the battery including the risk of fire.
How does Cellwatch prevent Thermal Runaway?
Cellwatch will detect and provide alarms for the critical conditions that indicate thermal runaway is beginning to occur; conditional voltage and temperature shifts. The occurrence of special conditions will trigger Cellwatch to detect thermal runaway and can be used to remove the failing string from its power source thus stopping the progression and preventing catastrophe. Cellwatch also meets International NFPA -1 and Fire Code 608.3 standards.
